Description (Service)
Strong Start's Letters, Sounds and Words Program matches interested community volunteers with children age 5-7 years (K, Gr1, Gr2) who are struggling with reading skills
volunteers meet one-to-one with a child each week for a 10-week commitment, using games, books and activities designed to help a child learn letters, sounds and words
volunteers receive training and handbooks before working with children; all materials are supplied
Programs are located in 94 Catholic and public schools in Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk, Six Nations and New Credit. Volunteer training is online
