Description

Description (Service)

Strong Start's Letters, Sounds and Words Program matches interested community volunteers with children age 5-7 years (K, Gr1, Gr2) who are struggling with reading skills

  • volunteers meet one-to-one with a child each week for a 10-week commitment, using games, books and activities designed to help a child learn letters, sounds and words
  • volunteers receive training and handbooks before working with children; all materials are supplied


Programs are located in 94 Catholic and public schools in Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk, Six Nations and New Credit as well as Brantford Christian School, Central Baptist Academy, W. Ross MacDonald School for the Blind and Braemar House School. Volunteer training is online
