Description (Service)

Courthouse Services and courts include:

  • Superior Court of Justice - court services respecting civil actions, criminal actions, family actions and small claims court actions
  • Ontario Court of Justice - court hearings for applications under the Family Law Act, Children's Law Reform Act, Provincial Offences Act, Young Offenders Act (12-15 years), Criminal Code actions and other related legislation * Applicant/Creditors may enforce through the Court. Payments of fines/tickets other than parking
  • Family Law Information Centre - designed for use by unrepresented litigants who need assistance with family law cases as they relate to court processes. A duty counsel lawyer will be available to assist them with any legal concerns they may have. Assistance will also be provided with the completion of forms
  • Justice of the Peace - appointed by the Attorney General. The associate judge apportions duties such as presiding over the Provincial Offences Court, issuing summons, subpoenas, search warrants, swearing affidavits, and oaths
  • Small Claims Court - for plaintiffs with claims up to $25,000
  • Enforcement Officer or Sheriff available in Cayuga and Simcoe
