Description

Description (Service)

A small community museum that focuses on telling stories related to the commercial fishing history of Port Dover, Long Point Bay (along the north shore of Lake Erie). The museum collects, interprets and exhibits objects related to the history of the Port Dover community - its businesses, churches, schools, clubs and organizations, and the people who live there

Displays include:

  • Commercial fishing history of the north shore of Lake Erie displayed in an original 1940s net shanty
  • Wheelhouse from a 1912 lake freighter 
  • 1932 Port Dover fish tug "Almidart"
  • Prohibition and rumrunning 
  • Lake Erie shipwrecks (including the S.S. ATLANTIC)
  • Women's history (incl. Four Brave Girls, Abigail Becker, women's labour in the fishing industry)
  • Captain Alexander McNeilledge (sea captain, farmer, and folk artist)
  • War of 1812
  • Temporary exhibits (past exhibits include local photography, women potters, Port Dover Cemetery history, etc)
