Ages: 18 year(s) and up
In-person groups - Brantford and Simcoe Virtual groups - Brantford-Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk
varied severities/types of Aphasia due to stroke or injury to the brain (Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA), tumor)
medically stable adults, 18 years or older and living in the community
willing to participate in Supported Conversation Groups
demonstrates appropriate behaviour in a social group setting
no/minimal cognitive difficulties
client care needs (i.e. toileting, feeding) are met by client or caregiver (Note: some locations will have Day Program Staff available to assist)

Aphasia Program - In-person (Brantford and Simcoe) and virtual programs (Brantford-Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk)
Aphasia is a communication difficulty from a stroke, brain injury or brain illness. Aphasia affects speaking, reading, writing and understanding. Aphasia does not affect intelligence. People with Aphasia know more than they can say
Supported conversation groups for people with Aphasia:
build communication skills and confidence
meet other people with Aphasia
learn new ways to communicate - (speaking, writing, drawing, gestures, facial expressions, technology)
learn to have better conversations
Skill-building groups - tech group, book club etc
Brain Stroke Recovery Group - monthly support group for persons with stroke or acquired brain injury and family and friends
Caregiver Support Groups - weekly and monthly support groups for caregivers, family members/friends, facilitated by a Social Worker
Couples/Partner Conversation Training - person with Aphasia and a partner (spouse, children, friend, etc)
Building Hope Primary Progressive Aphasia Group (PPA) - a supported conversation group for individuals who have been diagnosed with Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA) or with suspected Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA)
Building Hope PPA Caregiver Group - for family and friends whose loved one has been diagnosed with Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA) or has suspected Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA)
Groups are facilitated by a Speech-Language Pathologist, Communicative Disorders Assistant, Social Worker and trained volunteers
