Eligibility Adult newcomers 18 years or older are eligible if they meet one of these criteria:
  • Canadian citizens born outside of Canada permanent resident
  • Convention refugees, protected persons or refugee claimants
  • workers admitted under the Live-In Caregiver program
  • applicants under other programs holding the initial letter of approval from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada
Application

All new students must be assessed before starting classes and will be placed in the correct class according to eligibility and language levels.  Staff evaluate the student's reading, writing, speaking and listening skills using the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB)

Coordinated Language Assessment and Referral Centre 

Adult Non-Credit English Language Training (ESL) Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC)

  • full-time in-person classes - levels Literacy to 8 (CLB)
  • no cost childminding is provided for children of LINC students from 19 months to 6 years of age during classes in Brantford
    • qualified ECE Instructors will supervise the child(ren) while students attend English Language Classes
    • parents are required to bring their child a lunch, but drinks and snacks will be provided
    • parents are required to supervise their own children during the lunch break
    • parents must remain in the building at all times while their children are in the childminding program
